What is Inbound SFTP?
Inbound SFTP, or Secure Shell (SSH) File Transfer Protocol, is a network protocol used to transfer data over the internet securely. It is commonly used for enterprise and business-to-business file transfer in many industries. Mentor Collective allows partner institutions to provide participant data files via inbound SFTP.
If you would like to learn more about receiving program data via SFTP, review more details about Outbound SFTP here.
Participant Data to Send via Inbound SFTP
Partners most commonly share the following data with Mentor Collective via Inbound SFTP:
- Participant Directory Data: Basic participant information, including institutional ID, name, email and phone number.
- Participant Profile Data: Participant data that your program would like to view, track, and analyze, including but not limited to major, academic advisor, first generation status, etc.
Benefits of Inbound SFTP
Data Security and Compliance
Inbound SFTP ensures secure data transfer, crucial for maintaining compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., industry best practices and safeguarding sensitive information.
Improved Efficiency
By automating data sharing through SFTP, we can significantly improve efficiency, allowing your staff to focus on higher-value tasks rather than manual data handling.
Mentor Collective does not currently offer automated inbound file exchange, and thus, data will not automatically appear in the Partner Dashboard when sent via SFTP. Please allow the appropriate time for Mentor Collective to upload the data into our system manually.
Enhanced Reporting and Analytics
Inbound SFTP enables the seamless data flow to Mentor Collective and your Partner Dashboard, facilitating data-driven decision-making and insights for your program.
Enabling SFTP
Want to use SFTP? Please identify the IT contact person for SFTP setup at your institution and share their contact information with your Mentor Collective representative. Your Mentor Collective representative will then connect the IT contact person with Mentor Collective’s Product Technical Support Manager to set up inbound and/or outbound SFTP.
If SFTP is already set up for a different program at your institution, you will not need to work with your IT contact person. Instead, please just inform your Mentor Collective representative and they will work with the Mentor Collective team to enable SFTP for your specific program.
