This webinar focused on how higher education institutions can expand peer-to-peer mentoring programs to encompass entire student cohorts without an exponential increase in budget or staff burnout. Moderated by Jennifer Kious of Mentor Collective, the session featured Dr. Kelly Wenig from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Dr. Wenig detailed how his division scaled their MentorLink initiative from 30 to more than 190 mentors and was able to match the entire incoming class. The conversation outlined key operational strategies for successful expansion, including shifting the recruitment timeline to the spring to combat summer melt, utilizing an automated "opt-out" framework to retain existing mentors, leveraging student "Super Mentors" to absorb administrative tasks, and shifting from manual spreadsheets to Mentor Collective's tech-enabled infrastructure to efficiently manage student matching, early alerts, and institutional data collection.
