[Webinar]: Proving It Works: Montclair State's Data-Driven Case for Mentorship at Scale

This webinar focused on how Montclair State University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences used peer mentorship to improve student retention, build a culture of belonging, and scale a successful program across the college. This discussion was moderated by Mentor Collective's Account Executive, Erin Callison, and featured Leslie Wilson and Courtney Cunningham from Montclair State, who shared how their program evolved from a targeted first-year initiative into a model serving the entire incoming class. The conversation highlighted key strategies for proving mentorship’s impact, including using institutional data to demonstrate a 4–7% increase in first-year retention among mentored students, identifying stronger outcomes among Pell-eligible and first-generation students, and leveraging both quantitative and qualitative data to build support with institutional leaders. They also discussed incorporating mentorship into orientation, using Mentor Collective’s technology to track engagement and identify students who may need additional support, and making the case for expanding mentorship to all 850 incoming students without significantly increasing costs or administrative workload.
