Adding Custom Resources

Mentor Collective provides 40+ standard resources for participants to help guide them throughout their mentorship, all available on the Participant Dashboard. However, many programs choose to supplement these resources with institution- and/or program-specific resources to provide additional support for mentors and mentees.

Providing Custom Resources

If you would like to add custom resources to your program, there are two primary ways to provide this custom content to the Partner Support team (partnersupport@mentorcollective.org) for upload:

  1. [Recommended] Provide a PDF.
    • The PDF will be uploaded directly to the Participant Dashboard.
    • This will retain all branding and formatting (if relevant) and allows participants to download the resource for use outside of the Participant Dashboard.
  2. Provide a document with the exact copy, image(s), link(s), videos, etc. desired.
    • The content will be copied into our standard resource formatting.

While custom resources can be added at any time, it's recommended to add them at the beginning of the program so that participants have access to all they need from day one.

Note: Custom resources should be reviewed, at minimum, once per program cycle to ensure all information remains up-to-date.

What Type of Resources Should I Add?

You are welcome to add any custom resources that you believe will be beneficial to your mentors and mentees. The possibilities are endless! However, if you need some inspiration, review common custom resources and examples below.

Institutional Resource Directory

A variety of standard resources are provided for mentors and mentees, but these will not reference any specific resources that your institution may provide. You may choose to provide a directory of additional resources that participants have access to, beyond those mentioned in Mentor Collective's standard materials.

Example - Pacific University Resource Guide

Example - FIU Student Resources

Pacific University and Florida International University both provide a list of relevant institutional offices and departments, including contact information and information about what support the office can provide. In addition, Pacific University anticipated the most common student needs and provided mentors and mentees with FAQs for each department.

Mentor Support by Flag Topic

While program administrators may review and process flags as they are reported and reach out to individuals as necessary, mentors may also benefit from standard resources they can review as mentee concerns are brought to their attention.

Example - UC Davis Peer Mentor Success Guide

Example - FIU Mentor Resources by Flag Topic

UC Davis and Florida International University provide a comprehensive list of institutional and external resources for mentors, organized primarily by flag topic. UC Davis also included a few additional categories they know will be helpful for their participant population.

Participant Handbook & Expectations

If your program has specific expectations or instructions for your participants to follow, you may want to provide that as a resource in the Participant Dashboard.

Example - York College Mentor Collective Student Handbook

Example - Community College of Rhode Island Mentor Orientation

York College and CCRI provides a resources for mentors that includes provides clear expectations for their mentorship, resources for mentee referrals and support, instructions for submitting appropriate flags, and more!
