When a participant logs in to their Participant Dashboard, they will see a Mentorship Checklist:
If there is a particular action that you would like mentors and/or mentees to take at any time during the program, you have the opportunity to add a custom task!
Requesting a Custom Task
Mentor Collective offers the ability to create custom tasks that redirect participants to an internal or external link. The process is quite simple! Please share the following information with the Partner Support team (partnersupport@mentorcollective.org):
-
Task Name(s): What do you want participants to do?
- The name can change depending on if the mentor/ee is viewing it.
- Participant Type: Should mentees, mentors, or both see this task?
- Link: Where should the task direct them?
It is recommended that you add any custom task(s) during the program setup process and prior to inviting participants. Why? We know that participants are most active in their Mentorship Checklist on the day they register.
What Type of Tasks Should I Add?
You are welcome to add any custom tasks that you believe will be beneficial to your mentors and/or mentees. The possibilities are endless! However, if you need some inspiration, review common custom tasks and examples below.
Refer to External Resources
Perhaps your program or office has a robust web page with detailed information about the program, expectations, recommendations, and resources. You can create a custom task to direct participants to view and/or utilize that information, and know that they can always find it again on their Mentorship Checklist.
- Bookmark the Mentorship Program website
Emphasize Dashboard Resources
A variety of standard resources are provided for mentors and mentees on their Participant Dashboard, and perhaps you’ve also added a custom resource. You can use a custom task to draw specific attention to a standard and/or custom resource that may be particularly helpful.
- Familiarize yourself with the “Institutional Resource Directory”
Encourage Targeted Conversations
If there is a specific topic you would like your mentorship pairs to discuss at any point in the program, this may be an opportunity to add a custom task. However, you will want to use this tool sparingly, as to not overwhelm participants with too many items on their Mentorship Checklist.
- Schedule a mock interview with your mentor.
- Conduct a mock interview with your mentee(s).
- Remind your mentee(s) about the add/drop deadline.
FAQ
❓Can we require that participants complete the custom task(s)?
- It is not recommended that you require additional tasks beyond the matching survey and mentor training, as it will likely result in significant delays in the matching process.
❓How can I tell who has completed the custom task(s).
- Please reach out to your Mentor Collective representative for this information. Depending on the nature of your task, they can provide insight into which participants viewed or completed the task(s).
