March 2025 Monthly Digest

This month’s edition focuses on how participants connect meaningfully through mentorship. We’ll explore how a participant-centered approach strengthens relationships, how messaging works, and all about the tools available in the Participant Dashboard to support engagement.

A Participant-Centered Approach

A participant-centered approach to mentorship means your initiative is first and foremost centered around the experiences and needs of your participants.

In the Mentor Collective platform, all elements of the participant experience have been designed with this mindset. For example, messaging and matching take into account identity-conscious and inclusive practices, such as copy that reflects different experiences and identity-based matching options in the matching survey.

A participant-centered approach also encourages participants to be goal-based in their mentorship intentions. Mentees want to grow and achieve their personal or professional goals, while mentors want to feel that their guidance has made a meaningful impact. When both sides are aligned around clear, shared objectives, the mentorship experience becomes more rewarding and productive for everyone involved.

How Messaging Works

Mentor Collective’s participant messaging automatically adjusts, based on what actions the mentor or mentee has (or has not) taken.

  • After your institution sends an initial invitation email, Mentor Collective's automated system begins sending follow-up recruitment messages, which provide information about the program, the value of mentorship, and instructions on how to sign up.
  • After a participant signs up for your program, they automatically begin receiving pre-match messaging, which shares additional information about the program, sets expectations, and directs them to complete their Mentorship Checklist.
  • After the participant is matched, they receive messaging informing them that they were matched, providing insight into their counterpart, setting up their anonymous SMS relay, and encouraging them to make initial contact.
  • As the participant continues to engage in mentorship, they receive ongoing messaging with reminders to log conversations and/or submit flags. They also receive three assessment surveys: at the start, middle, and end of your program.

Note: Participants always have the option to unsubscribe from messaging at any point.
